Common Types of Cranes Used in Construction

From Franna cranes to rough terrain cranes, several different types of cranes can be used depending on the needs of the project and the environment it’s being used in.

Different types of cranes have different capabilities, such as varying lifting capacities, reach, and mobility, as well as being designed for indoor use, while others are designed for outdoor use. The

specific needs and requirements of a construction project

will dictate which type of crane is best suited for the job.

All Terrain Cranes

All-terrain cranes are a common type of crane in the construction industry as they have a variety of functions including lifting, transporting, hoisting and assembling heavy objects. All-terrain cranes are mobile cranes that are designed to operate on a variety of different types of terrain, including paved roads, gravel roads, and rough or uneven terrain. They can be used in a range of difficult-to-access places, thanks to their specialized design that allows them to move easily on rough terrains. They have a four-axle or more design and large, wide-track tires that provide stability and mobility.

Mobile Cranes

Mobile cranes are typically used for tasks such as unloading heavy equipment from flatbed trailers, loading materials onto trucks and erecting buildings. Mobile cranes can also be used for demolition work, allowing construction teams to break down large structures quickly and safely. By using mobile cranes in numerous tasks, construction projects can be completed quicker and more efficiently. Mobile cranes are cranes that are mounted on wheels or tracks and can be easily moved around a construction site. They have a long boom and a large hook that can be used to lift and move heavy loads over long distances.

Rough Terrain Cranes

Rough terrain cranes are mobile cranes that are designed to operate on challenging terrains, such as rocky, uneven, or muddy ground. They are typically used in construction projects for tasks such as lifting and placing heavy loads, such as steel beams, precast concrete, and heavy equipment.

They have a long boom and a large hook that can be used to lift and move heavy loads over long distances. Rough terrain cranes are also equipped with 4-wheel drive and 4-wheel steering which help them to navigate through difficult terrain.

Truck Mounted Cranes

They can be used to lift, lower and transport heavy items with ease. This makes them invaluable for moving heavy loads between different locations on a construction site or for lifting materials to higher floors or levels. With the right crane operator, these cranes provide reliable and efficient service for a variety of moving and lifting needs on any construction project. From steel beams to building materials, truck-mounted cranes can handle it all!

Spider Cranes

Spider cranes are small, compact cranes that are often used in construction projects for tasks such as lifting and placing heavy loads in tight spaces. They are particularly useful for projects that involve working in confined areas or at height, as they are compact, lightweight, and easy to maneuver. Some common tasks that spider cranes are used for include lifting and placing HVAC units, installing glass panels, and moving heavy equipment. They are also useful for lifting and placing precast concrete and steel beams, and for performing other tasks that require precise control and high lifting capacity.

Crawler Cranes

Crawler cranes are large, heavy-duty cranes that are typically used in construction projects for tasks that involve moving large loads, such as steel beams, precast concrete, and heavy equipment. They have a long boom and a large hook that can be used to lift and move heavy loads over long distances. They are mounted on a crawler track, which allows them to move around a construction site with ease and stability. Some common tasks that crawler cranes are used for include:

  • Erecting steel structures

  • Lifting and placing heavy equipment, such as generators and air conditioning units

  • Lifting and placing precast concrete and steel beams

  • Placing and setting heavy equipment, such as turbines and generators

  • Lifting and placing large, heavy loads at height

Crawler cranes are particularly useful for large-scale construction projects, such as building bridges, skyscrapers, and other large structures. They are also used in heavy industry and mining operations.

Franna Cranes

Franna cranes can be used to lift and move heavy materials, as well as provide support for larger structures. These machines can carry out many of the same tasks that traditional cranes or forklifts can do, but with greater speed and efficiency. With their superior lifting capabilities and impressive reach, Franna cranes can help construction sites to complete work faster and with better results.

With a Franna crane, you get the benefit of increased flexibility when it comes to lifting heavy loads. It's designed to move around quickly and provide precision control over its movements in tight spaces. This makes it perfect for construction sites where different pieces need to be placed with accuracy. They are also much safer than traditional heavy equipment, as their powerful engines enable them to remain stable even when performing the most difficult tasks. Whether you’re building a residential home or a large commercial structure, a Franna crane should be at the top of your list for getting the job done right. With the help of this incredible machine, you can make sure that each project is finished quickly and safely.
